Reflection: I believe that this quote is saying that the matter the situation, do what's right. If you do something that you believe is wrong but still do it anyway, it's going to be on your conscience. Why would you want to suffer knowing you did something bad and having that on your conscience? Even if it pains you, do what's right and you won't have a bad conscience.
